Thanks Stuart, lol I should check my spelling before posting pics. I agree, that blue and purple mix is outstanding.

This stone was found on the Fraser River In Vancouver Canada. I found another one today that is larger. I am going to polish the cut side so that it will show clearer and will post next week. Thanks for the response Frances

Well, it looks  like something "fossilized". Show the cut side, to see the cross-section. That's an interesting pattern showing on the surface. May I hazard a guess at "fossilized coral".

It appears to be carnelianized agate. The very first cabochon I ever cut and polished was cut from a slab similar to your piece.

Frustrated

I wrote a blog article then hit preview and it said "go back to the post" but I can't figure out how to do that.  It doesn't appear to be anywhere.  Grrr.

Report on the north Vancouver Island trip in August

Terry and I headed north only after discovering that the usual places to stay were filled with engineers working on the Port Alice pulp mill.  We ended up in a "not suggested" older hotel in Port McNeil - the Dalewood which was clean and cool (windows opened) and had the best food in town.  We drove every day in a different direction, back roads map book in hand.    This book is both useful and not useful in equal parts.  The current logging companies have renamed (or unnamed) all the mains…
