Great info. Thanks. I have a good digital camera and tripod. A light box is in the works, and almost finished. Can't wait to give this a try. Don

Hey Tony, What degree of computer skills are needed for this job ? I'm retired, and on line from early morning until late evening. I certainly have the time to keep an eye on things, but a computer wizard I'm not. I'd be happy to give my time to kee…

The first pic could possibly be jade. The brown one is jasp/ agate, and the rest look like various types of agate. Interesting patterns in the last two. Don

Thank You Don for your considerate effort! I will definitely email Don haha! Does it get confusing being a "Don" also? The turquoise I thought I had found...well they updated their website and it is no longer available. I was going to email the artist, when I decided to check here first. Happy I did. I have a very good picture of what I am looking for. The lady who has commissioned me found a pic of the exact ring she wants made. IT IS a large stone w/ a simple setting...its all about the BIG blue honker! lol
I LOVE the sphere maker....I am green w/ envy!!!! The "club" is awesome too.

I will let you know of any progress. Thank You again!

Well done with the dumortierite. Crystals are rare, does your fluoresce blue under short wave uv light? I got my scope & UBS camera combo of Ebay.

Don. I have a stereo microscope (20X & 40X magnification) with a USB camera on it. All the micro photos i have taken were throo the camera. The images are not the best but what do you expect, you are looking at a sample around 1mm long. also good cameras for a microscope cost around 400, to expensive for me. I plan to eventually devise a rig to attach my digital camera to my microscope.

Thank You for the info. I will try to look tonight.
I have a few tumbled polished stones someone gave me. One I thought looked like a reddish opal, it could be a small piece of fire agate.

Don,
I want to thank you. Your comment was right to the point...........collectors forget about the site itself. It's comparable to receiving a gift from Santa and not saying "Thank you". Did you ever see the movie..."Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (my spelling may be off) ? If I may be so bold to say to anyone reading this.........watch this movie. It's about gold miners, who after loading sacks and sacks full of gold, turn back to face the mountain and they all tell the mountain "Thank you" It's a real tear jerker.

I would like to make another comment.........a digital camera is as important as a GPS, maps, and site research. You will be preserving your collecting pleasures for a lifetime. Though this is a Canadian website and I'm not sure photos from U.S. sites would fit in here. I am from Pennsylvania. Yesterday, I posted an album titled "Herkimer Diamonds". Hopefully my Canadian friends won't mind.

Thank you again

Frank

Well met Don

I live in Mississauga & i have been a rockhound since 2000, but i really begun to collect when i got my car around 2003. I mainly focus on the Bancroft area, Forks of the Credit area, & now i am expanding my search to the Niagara Falls area & the Madoc Area. I have extensively collected around Bancroft so i am looking for new hunting grounds. I am a member of Mindat. If there are any sites that i have visited that interest you feel free to ask me about it.

Some of my favorite hunting sites are The Beryl Pit, Quadeville (always good finds there), Montrose Occurrence, & the Marmora Iron Mine.

Michal.
