I would add to what Don said the Mindat forum. As long as you have good pictures and can tell them the hardness of the specimen they are pretty quick at narrowing it down. They can also help point you to other resources. ~zeke

that would be dyed agate there...unless it's not;-) i got my wife a box with a slab of that on the top to keep all her beach agates in. ~zeke

Yeah, the red was just what was there when i took these pictures months ago. I'm still trying to find a good picture of a "green black" jade that shows the green...may have to dig one out and re-shoot it. ~Zeke

Some black jade is actually very very dark green or at least has a green tinge to it...some is solid black, both are nice. I don't know why, just an observation. ~Zeke

I'm staying out of this one. If it were agate, I'd comment on it . It is a beautiful bit of carving, and the silver work is beautiful also. One of these days I'll get brave, and teach myself silversmithing. Don

What passion ? Like I said, I keep it hidden away. In my storage shed, under about a ton and a half of the good agate, jasper, chapinite , petrified wood and other good stuff. Don
