The Smithonian Institute has a great book out called Rocks & gems ...Also look up BC Geological Survey on interesting areas to check out. Also if you're into fossils there is an area around Kamloops for fossil fish.

Hey Ryan, As soon as I get a chance, I'll take and post some pics of rough and finished cabs of Montana moss agate. I have a 5 gallon bucket full that I have yet to cut. The Montana moss tends to have a lot of stress fractures. A good, solid piece i…

Hey Ryan, Nice thunder eggs. Where are they from ? I'm not familiar with the redish colored matrix. You did a nice job of polishing them. Did you use a flat lap ? Don

You guys are all very astute. It started life as a piece of sand in an Owens Corning insulation plant. Jen's parents gave it to us. It looks cool on the mantle.

Hey Ryan, try and avoid using textiles as a background. Also you need multiple lights to correctly show all angles of your piece. I'm just now experimenting with the specimen on a piece of frosted glass. Lighting under, atop and along the sides.. I…

I've been a member of Treasure Hunting wiki since last January. I'm jakesrocks over there. The S.D. guys are all my friends, but they live in the S.W., and I live in the N.E., a 7 hour drive away. Like I said, I'm a lonely rockhound, stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no rockhounds around me.

Since I live in South Dakota, I doubt that I'd be able to make it to meetings. They had a club here in Aberdeen, S.D. until the spring of 96. I moved here in late summer of 96, so I haven't belonged to a club since. The nearest club is a 3 hour drive from me. I wouldn't mind the drive, But summer tornado weather, and winter blizzards would probably keep me away from most meetings. No rockhound friends around here at all.

Hey Ryan, would a person have to be Canadian to join the Abby Rock n Gem club. I live in a part of South Dakota, where there are no clubs for us rockhounds. It gets lonely out here all by myself.
