polishing

like some insight on polishing rocks & where to get the right stuff for the job I live in Toronto any local resorces would be great, I seen the video & it didn't look like they were using a grinder & belt sander. & cleaning tips boiling it in the kitchen pot makes my craft dinner gritty. Thanks

I'm an old retired sheet metal mechanic, and I still have all of my tools. Never know when I might need to go back to work, to make ends meet. Rockhounding and lapidary work are just a hobby. Much of my lapidary equipment was bought at estate sales. I save what I can, and try to buy a new piece of equipment each year. Next year it will be a new computer, and a trip out west to meet up with some rockhound friends for a week of hunting rocks.

I don't know what the economy is like in Canada, but here in South Dakota, you can never get back as much as you've invested in time and effort by selling a few cut stones. Even if the cut stones are set in fine sterling, you barely break even. There has to be a market for your work, and around here there is no market.

I'm using an old dinosaur computer. I have to use the card slot on my printer to send pictures to a file. Something is messed up in the process. I hope to get a new computer right after Christmas, when the spring sales start. For now, I'm trying to find a temporary fix. I may try to uninstall, and reinstall a couple of programs, and see what happens.

Bought a new camera 2 months ago. The bug is in the photo editing software. It won't let me add photos from the memory card to an album. Have a computer geek buddy coming over this week, to try to debug this thing for me.

Hello Steve

Hmmm...not sure of your spelling but I think you may mean "apatite". It looks like this green crystal. As for the purple and white rock, you will have to give more information as to where you found this for the real geol-brains of the area to say anything. I was curious about it too.
