Hi Kevin, I setup your account with Moderator privileges. I read your post about wanting to setup a poll. I am not sure how to do this myself, give it a try. You now have access to add/delete/modify posts ... have fun!
Sorry, Made a mistake in that address. Where it says " Under Survey Areas ", it should read Geology Under Survey Areas. Can't read my own notes.

Geodes are the hollow ones with crystal or chalcedony lining. Thunder eggs are for the most part solid with an agate pattern inside. Then there are agate nodules. They're the ones with nice banding inside. Often with different colors of banding. Here in South Dakota we have several different kinds of agates. The Fairburn agate which is found here and in Nebraska and Wyoming is considered by most collectors to be the most beautiful in the world. A very close second would be the Patagonian agates from Argentina. If you want a really great site about agates, Google University of Nebraska - Lincoln. on the left side of the page, click on Geology & Soils. on the new page on the left side click on Under Survey Areas. Scroll down to the Agates section, and click on Agate Page Database. You can find pictures and descriptions of agates from all over the world there. It takes a little practice to negotiate the page, But it's a great site. I keep this one in my bookmarks, so I can go right to it.

hi again Don' THUNDER EGGS-GEODE r they not exactly the same ? do u know Bill Anderson ? 1 of the great's of geode collecter's, he acted in ponderosa the next generation ? his stuff is exceptional and he is quite the gold collecter having filled 45 bath tub's full ' i asked him once how much money he thought he could have made with 2-day's price's and he responded that he thought he had lost over 20.000,000 and that was 2 yrs ago now thats cash' and happy belated birthday 2 U Don' may the rock God's b with U
Thank you for the birthday wish. I had hoped that this one would slip by without anyone noticing. Wish I could start them going in reverse. Too cold and wet to go out hounding, so I'll spend the day flat lapping some thunder eggs and geodes. Maybe cut a cab or two.
A bunch of us are planning a late spring hunt for Fairburn agates in S.W. South Dakota. Why don't you join us ?

Thanks eh, I am a avid rock ripper, I will post a few rocks I got on the site, kinda sucks my digicam broke soo will be taking cam quality shots of them, maybe you can determine what the one rock is by looking at it the other 2 imma post... I got while working , laying pipe new subdivsions development. GTA Toronto.
Well, yes I would love it to be obsidian but I found it along a paved path in the dirt near a creek in my neighborhood. It is a "rock out of place" like most of the things I find. That makes them harder to identify. I mentioned to Kirt the research adventure this shard took me on. It has qualities like obsidian and the magnet attracting thing...would iron traces rust? Nickel also attracts, there are others, I just can't recall at the moment.
Thanks for the friendly greeting, Kevin. It'll take me awhile to find my way around but after I do, I'll share some photos of a few pieces I've collected. We live in Northern Michigan and I get to collect some here, but not quite the way it was when we lived in the Southwest. I'm hoping to make a trip to Bancroft one of these days. I hear the collecting is pretty good and the scenery is even better (smile).
